| Info | I, Sharolyn Vettese, am pleased to be your Green Party of Canada’s candidate for Willowdale. I’ve been very concerned about the increasing number of smog alert days in Toronto and the feeble government efforts to meet our Kyoto Protocol targets (in fact, we’re getting further away), so I’ve been doing something about it. For the past year I’ve been working on designing and building an innovative wind turbine that will generate electricity for houses, apartments, small manufacturers, etc. Firsthand, I’ve experienced the research and development maze.
Like many Greens, I came from the other parties,and I liked that the Greens practiced transparency and accountability while being fiscally conservative, socially progressive, and environmentally responsible. Unlike the other parties, the Greens mostly get along. I’m Francophone Secretary for the GPC Council where voting is mostly by consensus, and I would bring this valuable experience to Parliament to show my fellow MPs how to work respectfully together to govern in the best interest of Canada.
For more than twenty-two years I’ve been living in Willowdale. For several years I represented my community’s interest as volunteer ratepayer president, and for fourteen years as volunteer Chair of YSARA, a coalition of major ratepayer groups that participated in planning the redevelopment of Yonge Street, which is almost complete. I’m a Household Manager, and my children attended local public schools. They inspired me to write a parenting book. I received my BA from McMaster, and I’m currently enrolled at University of Toronto. It’s a pleasure having a certified wildlife habitat backyard.
