InfoTom Ferguson is the Green Party's candidate for the new riding of Niagara West Glanbrook. Born in Niagara, and having spent most of his life there, Tom has lived within the boundaries of the new riding for 15 years and is an active member of the Town of Lincoln's Municipal Heritage Committee. He is 53 and the owner of Niagara Custom Homes.

A Conservative through the 70s, Tom was a founding member of the Green Party in Ontario in 1983. "I had always thought of myself as a 'Green Tory'. It was clear to me that to be fiscally responsible, we had to include the impact that economic decisions had on nature. The environment has always been the most important issue ignored by our culture".

After running as a Green Party candidate in the St. Catharines riding during the 1984 federal election, Tom moved to Guelph where he helped Bill Hulet found the Guelph chapter. Tom was a policy adviser for the Ontario Greens during the late 80s before returning to Niagara to found his custom home business.

Tom trained as a carpenter, has a B.A. in Politics from Brock University, an M.A. in Political Studies from the University of Guelph, and completed his formal education at York University in the Graduate Faculty of Environmental Studies. He has at various times been a lecturer and teaching assistant at Brock, Guelph, and York.

During the recent provincial election in Ontario, Tom ran for the Greens in Erie-Lincoln and was overwhelmed with the response the Green Party received. Along with Doug Woodard, the backbone of the Green Party in Niagara, he and the other local candidates are confident that this election will provide the financial foundation to continue putting forward a platform which has as its basis a sustainable future.
