InfoYasmin Ratansi was first elected to the House of Commons in the 2004 general election and was re-elected in 2006.

Ms. Ratansi is the Critic for National Revenue. She has previously served as a member of the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development and of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

In addition, Ms. Ratansi has been an active participant in the Liberal Caucus Committee on Expenditure, and has been a member of the Liberal Caucus Committee on Global Affairs. In the last session of Parliament, she also served as Treasurer of the National Liberal Caucus.

Prior to her election to the House of Commons, Ms. Ratansi was well-known as a long-time community activist in Don Valley East. A Certified General Accountant (CGA) and Certified Management Consultant (CMC), she has enjoyed successful careers in both the public and private sectors. Ms. Ratansi has served as Vice-Chair of the Clark Institute of Psychiatry Foundation, as Treasurer of the Council of Ethnic Business and Professional Associations, and as Treasurer of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Ontario. Born in Tanzania and a first generation immigrant, Ms. Ratansi identifies with the needs of new Canadians and has served as a mentor to many who seek to begin a new life in Canada.
