InfoJohn Bethel is a proud son of Edmonton East. He grew up in the Londonderry
neighbourhood, and attended school at John Barnett, Londonderry, and M.E.
Lazerte. He has called the riding home for 30 of his 34 years.

After receiving a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Toronto, John
returned to Edmonton to complete an M.B.A. Always interested in
facilitating change and growth in organizations, John made an impact as a
student while attending the University of Alberta. John served as
President of the M.B.A. Students' Association, and participated in a
steering committee charged with developing a first of its kind MBA program
geared towards the energy industry in Alberta.

John has been a close advisor and supporter of Prime Minister Paul Martin,
having served as the Alberta Youth Chair for the Paul Martin Campaign in
1990, and as the Provincial Campaign Director for Prime Minister Martin's
recent successful leadership bid. For the past 4 years, John has served as
the Vice-President of the Liberal Party of Canada in Alberta, in addition
to serving as a Director at the constituency level. Throughout his
involvement with the Liberal Party, John has fought to make the party more
responsive and connected to its members and the people of Alberta. Having
worked for all three levels of government, John understands how government
works and knows what needs to be done to provide Edmonton East with good
representation.

As a professional management consultant, John has also worked for some of
Canada's largest corporations, providing cost-effective and innovative
solutions to their problems. Through this work, he has evolved expertise
in organizational improvement and e-government and e-commerce strategies.
John has also dealt first-hand with issues such as energy deregulation, and
has developed alternative energy business strategies for companies based on
recycling and using new technologies. Most recently, John helped develop a
new procurement policy for a provincial government in order to eliminate
inefficiences, and cut through red-tape.

John relates on a personal level to Edmonton East's communities. From his
volunteer work with the Boyle Street Co-op and with Junior Achievment at
Northeast Edmonton schools, to his relationships with the riding's diverse
Multicultural communities, John has and will continue to work hard for
everyone in Edmonton East.
