| Info | As a child Barry Bell and his two younger brothers grew up on Quadra Island, before their mother, a single parent, moved with them to the Lower Mainland.
He became interested in politics as a teenager, but did not become a member of a political party until he joined the NDP over twenty years ago.
Barry is now the President of the Fleetwood-Port Kells federal NDP, and is actively involved on the executive of the Surrey-Tynehead provincial NDP. He was the NDP candidate in Surrey-Tynehead in the last provincial election.
Barry is a skilled tradesman working in BC Hydro�s construction division, and he is a qualified Coating Inspector certified by NACE International. Barry also serves on the executive of the Painters Union, and is a shop steward for the Electrical Workers Union.
Barry is recently engaged to be married to his high school girlfriend later this fall. They reconnected with each other last year after 31 years apart.
Barry was inspired to run for elected office by NDP leader Jack Layton�s passion, enthusiasm, and his positive vision for Canada.
It is a vision that Barry shares: to build a green and prosperous economy that leaves no one behind, to renew and restore our public health care system, to provide educational and training opportunities for young people, and to reinvest in our communities with housing, transportation, and infrastructure projects that are sorely needed in communities like Surrey.
