Info | Lee Fisher is an American politician. He is a member of the Ohio Democratic Party and is currently the Democratic Party nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.
Fisher is a graduate of Oberlin College (where he has served as a college trustee) and of Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He is a member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Fisher served as an Ohio state representative from 1981 to 1982 and as an Ohio state senator from 1982 to 1990. He was narrowly elected attorney general of Ohio and served in that post from 1991 to 1995. In 1994, Fisher lost his bid for re-election as Ohio Attorney General to Republican Betty Montgomery.
In 1992, Fisher was appointed a presidential elector for Ohio. In 1998, Fisher ran for Governor of Ohio but narrowly lost to Republican Bob Taft in the closest gubernatorial election in 28 years.
Fisher's wife, Peggy Zone Fisher, was a member of the Ohio delegation to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. During this time, Fisher hinted that he might be interested in playing a hand in state-wide politics again. This was taken to mean that he might consider another run for the governorship in 2006, when current governor Bob Taft is to be barred from seeking a third consecutive term. Fisher is once again on the Statewide ticket, not for the number one spot, but for Lieutenant Governor with Gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland.
