Info | Samuel Seabury was born in New York City on February 22, 1873. His father was Rev. William Jones Seabury and his mother was Alice Van Wyck. His great grandfather was the son of Samuel Seabury, First Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in America. He was educated by his father, also attended Trinity School and Wilson and Kellogg School in New York City, and graduated from the New York Law School in 1893. He was admitted to the bar in 1894.
One June 6, 1900 he married Joseph Maud Richey.
In 1901 he was elected a New York City Court Judge; elected Justice Supreme Court of New York in 1906 from which he resigned in 1914. In November 1914, he was elected an Associate Judge of the New York Court of Appeals; resigned August 1916, and was nominated by the Democratic Party was candidate for Governor of New York State in September 1916.
In August, 1930, he was appointed Referee, Appellate Division, First Department, to investigate conditions of the Magistrate Courts in that Department; in 1931 he was appointed by Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt to hear charges filed against the District Attorney of New York Court, and in 1931 was designated as Counsel to the Joint Legislative Committee to investigate affairs of New York City.
