InfoGreen Party Deputy Leader.

Andrew Lewis is 41 years old. married and father of 2 young children. His education includes a B.Sc Biology and a Diploma in Ecology. Currently he has a landscape and restoration services business which includes design and contracting for residential, commercial and local government.

Andrew's community involvement begins with his interest in growing and sharing food, the foundation of every economy, as well as his background in ecology. He is a member of the Farmers Institute on Salt Spring,Island and the Agricultural Advisory Panel for the Island's Trust. He is also a member of Salt Spring Justice and Reconciliation (Native issues; cultural justice), the Coalition of Concerned Citizens (peace, poverty, welfare, affordable housing, healthcare, and community gardens are some ongoing projects), and a past director of the Salt Spring Conservancy. For his Diploma final project he worked with youth from the Tsartlip and Tsawout Indian Bands (Saanich) on a riparian and language (Sencoten) restoration project. Restoring language is a vital part of restoring identity and community, both of which are tied to landscape. He was the key organizer for the 2002 Pro Rep Initiative in his riding, tabling on Salt Spring, Pender and Sidney for 16 weeks which achieved the required 10% signatures, 1 of only 9 BC ridings to succeed. He has also been involved as a community spokeperson and critic regarding the GSX gas pipeline proposal across the Georgia Strait for the last 5 years.
As provincial Green Party candidate in 2001 for Saanich North and the Islands, Andrew achieved over 25% support, obtaining 7200 votes - the highest in B.C.

In his own words:

"I believe we need to restore democracy by empowering local communities to be part of decision making. Local, empowered participation, is a necessary precursor to effective economic, social, and ecological justice."
