InfoTammy Lea Meyer was born in Matsqui and raised in Mission. She is running for Parliament to promote community engagement and social development.

Tammy has been working as a web support and community organizer with various community groups, including Independent Community Television, Vancouver Indymedia, Western Canada Wilderness Committee and Artists for Peace.

Tammy is a founding director of Squeegeemedia, a web hosting and development cooperative serving progressive groups in BC. She is interested in using media and communications to better serve communities and the democratic process.

"Democracy in Canada needs progressive, common sense strategies to better serve its constituents. Proportional representation has long been used in most other democratic countries in the world. It is high time the values of green Canadians were represented in Parliament."

Tammy has been paying close attention to the proposed Genstar/Madision development in Silverhill, and is impressed by the community's presentations to City Council which have been overwhelmingly against the project.

"Mission residents are standing up to this push by big business to create a new town of Silverhill where there is now salmon streams and wetland habitat. It is remarkable how the community is gelling and pulling together with this issue."

Maple Ridge is currently working with Smart Growth BC to develop strategies to reduce sprawl in fiscally, environmentally and socially responsible ways.
