| Info | The Provincial Working Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the North West Province, at its meeting held on Saturday 24th April 2004, in Klerksdorp, hailed the appointment of Comrade Edna Molewa as the new Premier of the North West Province.
She is a comrade with a long history of struggle for freedom and democracy in South Africa. Over many years she worked tirelessly to build unity within the trade union movement in the Commercial, Catering and Retail Sector, which faced an eminent split during the 1980s. This resulted in the birth of SACCAWU from CCAWUSA. She also served our masses as part of MK. She has demonstrated her leadership qualities in many situations and served as 1st vice President of SACCAWU until she was deployed to National Parliament in 1994. Her appointment is an affirmation of working class women activists in the struggle to build a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa.
She has great stature in the North West and has already made enormous contribution to the province as MEC of Economic Affairs and Tourism and later as MEC of Agriculture, Environment and Conservation. She is in touch with needs of the rural masses, the working class and the poor. Given her experience in the trade union movement, and the leadership she already demonstrated, the SACP has full confidence in the leadership of Comrade Edna who has emerged from the ranks of the working class.
The Provincial Executive Committee and the entire membership of the SACP in the North West congratulates Cde Edna on her appointment and commits itself to work closely with her to advance the aspirations and interests of the working class and the poor in our province.
