Info | Assemblyman Darrel J. Aubertine represents the 118th Assembly District, which includes parts of Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties. A lifelong resident of Northern New York, Mr. Aubertine was elected with Democratic, Working Families, Independence, and Green Party support.
Mr. Aubertine's family has lived in the Cape Vincent area since the 1860s. He currently resides in the town of Cape Vincent with his wife of 25 years, Margaret, and their three children; Erin, Paul, and Timothy. For over thirty years, Mr. Aubertine was a full-time dairy farmer at his family's Triple A Aubertine Farm - a sixth generation Heritage farm.
Mr. Aubertine served on the Cape Vincent Town Board from 1994 through 1995. From 1996 through 2001, he was the Jefferson County Legislator for District 1, where he held positions on the General Services and Human Resources Committees. Mr. Aubertine also served as chairman of the Cape Vincent Zoning Commission for three years, on the Board of Representatives to the Cornell Cooperative Extension, and as political representative for the county's Law Library.
In 1998 and 1999, Mr. Aubertine was elected the chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Legislators, even though Republicans held a 12-3 majority on a 15-member board. As chairman, Mr. Aubertine played a major role in the aftermath of the Ice Storm of 1998 and continually represented Jefferson County at the New York State level.
As chair of the County Legislature, Mr. Aubertine helped refinance existing bonds at substantial savings to taxpayers and authored legislation to help dairy farmers with the New National Milk Pricing Program. In addition, he helped initiate Jefferson Community College's Distance Learning Program in order for 2-year students to gain 4-year bachelor's degrees from other institutions. In office, Mr. Aubertine will continue his efforts to improve the economy, education, health care, agriculture, and tourism.
