Info | FERRIS, Scott, a Representative from Oklahoma; born in Neosho, Newton County, Mo., November 3, 1877; attended the public schools and was graduated from Newton County High School in 1897 and from the Kansas City School of Law in 1901; was admitted to the bar in 1901 and commenced practice in Lawton, Okla., the same year; member of the State house of representatives in 1904 and 1905; upon the admission of Oklahoma as a State into the Union was elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth Congress; reelected to the Sixty-first and to the five succeeding Congresses and served from November 16, 1907, until March 3, 1921; chairman, Committee on Public Lands (Sixty-second through Sixty-fifth Congresses); did not seek renomination as a Representative, but was an unsuccessful candidate for Senator; delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1912 and 1916; moved to New York City and engaged in the oil business 1921-1924; returned to Oklahoma in 1925; Democratic national committeeman from Oklahoma 1924-1940; resumed the practice of law; engaged in the oil business and also in agricultural pursuits; died in Oklahoma City, Okla., June 8, 1945; interment in Rosehill Cemetery.
