Info | South London pharmacist Ashwin Tanna launched his campaign in November 1999. The Dulwich chemist was a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Council between 1985 and 1991 and was subsequently made a Fellow of the society.
In 1996 he received the Southwark Civic Award for his community work in the London borough. He says that he is standing to represent the views of ordinary Londoners who want a mayor who can run the city without interference from political party leaders.
He opposes part privatisation of the London Underground and has called for fares to be cut. On crime, he advocates fully involving local communities in policing their areas to foster grass-roots community safety.
Mr Tanna wants a London-wide business forum to act as a consultancy body to the Mayor and Greater London Authority and he also proposes encouraging the economy of south London.
