Info | Georgists believe that economic value produced from land should belong equally to all members of society, and (consequently) that a Land Value Tax (LVT) is by far the best and fairest tax.
Shared Ground are the only truly Georgist party in British Politics, and I'm proud to stand for them in this election. Other parties have flirted with the idea of adopting LVT as a policy, which is encouraging, but we are the only party who put it front and centre; it is our raison d'ĂȘtre.
Implementing a Land Value Tax would help to solve many of the UK's current problems. It would reduce wealth inequality by taxing unearned wealth. It would reduce inter-generational inequality by putting younger people on the same footing as their parents and grandparents who were able to buy homes before prices spiralled. It would reduce regional inequality by shifting the burden of taxation towards people living in wealthier areas. It would increase economic activity by encouraging investment in productive enterprises, rather than unproductive land speculation. It would result in more (and much needed) housebuilding by discouraging 'land banking'. And it would reduce CO2 emissions by encouraging people to live in denser, more easily heated blocks, nearer to their workplaces.
The Land Value Tax is not a 'left wing' or 'right wing' policy; it is truly 'radical centrist', and we believe it would make the UK both more wealthy and more equal. Our other policies are economically moderate and socially liberal (more details at www.yppuk.org ). A vote for us helps to put LVT and a brighter future firmly on the agenda.
