| Info | Jerry Murphy has served on the Sparta Township Council since January 1, 2006. Narrowly elected in a 2005 special election, Murphy, easily won re-election in 2008 and 2012 with notable opposition, and with none in 2016. While on the Council Murphy has served as Sparta's Mayor from 2015 to 2016 and is currently serving for the 2020 year. Not shortly after he became Mayor it was revealed that he was suing the town for what he saw as unfair treatment for a DWI he received a few years before.
