Info | Rick was born, raised, and has spent most of his adult life in Grand Rapids. Kathleen and Rick, married for over 45 years, have raised four children, Sholom, Aaron, Jessica, and Michael, in Grand Rapids.
A graduate of Grand Rapids High School and Itasca Community College, Rick went on to obtain a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Dakota.
Before retiring from Blandin Paper Company in August of 2014, Rick was responsible for managing a million dollar budget while supervising a multi-craft work crew. He owns a small electrical contracting business and teaches part time at Itasca Community College. Rick has experience working in the taconite industry as an IBEW union construction electrician and as an electrical engineer.
Rick continues several generations of Blake family involvement in community affairs. He was Scouting Coordinator for the Boy Scouts, President of the Murphy School Parent Teachers Club, volunteer with the Grand Rapids Amateur Hockey Association, YMCA Board member, Library Board Chair and led successful fundraising efforts for the YMCA and the Grand Rapids Area Library.
Housing is a focus for Rick. He serves on the Grand Rapids Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) Board, has worked for the St. Paul HRA, was a consultant to the Bloomington HRA, was a community organizer aid for Ramsey Action Programs and spent two years in the Careers in Urban and Regional Affairs program at the University of Minnesota.
Rick, his grandparents, parents, and one of his children have been business owners in Grand Rapids.
Rick and his family enjoy all the recreational activities that Minnesota’s Northland has to offer. Rick knows how lucky we are to be able to live in Grand Rapids, and wants to do what he can to help keep it a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
