InfoGilbert Ortiz is currently in his fourth four year term as the Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder, which began in January of 2020. The purpose of the Pueblo County Clerk & Recorder’s Office is to register and title motor vehicles, record deeds, issue marriage licenses, register voters, administer elections, process liquor licenses, maintain the county’s Boards and Commission and record minutes for all Board of County Commissioner’s meetings. The Office is responsible for collecting all revenue fees, which include title and motor vehicle registrations fees, sales tax fees, document recording fees, marriage license fees and costs for conducting county wide, municipal, school district and special district elections.

Before his term as Clerk, Mr. Ortiz was elected to the Pueblo City Council in 2003 where he served as the District 2 Councilman for 3 years. As a city Councilman, he served as Vice President in 2005 and Work Session Chair in 2006. He served on the Pueblo Area Council of Governments (PACOG) as Vice-Chair in 2004 and Chairman in 2005-2006, State Transportation Advisory Council in 2005-2006, Pueblo Regional Building Commission (2004-2007), Colorado Municipal League Legislative Committee and Pueblo City Planning and Zoning Board (2005-2007). He has also been a partner in Chicken N Pasta/Ortiz Catering for more than 28 years. The business was awarded Small Business of the Decade Award by the Latino Chamber of Commerce in 2009.

Currently, Mr. Ortiz was appointed by the Governor for the Electronic Recording Technology Board (ERTB) and the State Internet Portal Authority (SIPA). He also sits on the NextFifty Foundation, CCCA Legislative Committee, NALEO, NACO, and NACRC. He is a past President of the Colorado County Clerks Association, and Chair of the CCCA Education Committee whose responsibility it is to train newly elected County Clerks statewide.

Locally, he is a member of Pueblo Catholic Charities, Pueblo Latino Chamber, and Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Ortiz regularly attends legislative sessions and has been an outspoken advocate for voting rights. Since his election in 2006, he has successfully administered 27 Elections. He has since implemented MV Registration Renewal Kiosks, All Mail Voting System, Online Renewals, the Statewide Voter Registration System, Online Voter Registration and 'E-Recording', the new Payport that accepts credit cards for the Motor Vehicle Department. Born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado, Gilbert still resides in the Belmont area. He is married to Stephanie Ortiz and has three children. He is a proud East High graduate of 1989.
