InfoSusan Williams Gifford was elected Massachusetts State Representative in November of 2002. Serving constituents of the 2nd Plymouth District, including the towns of Bourne, Carver, and Wareham, she was appointed to the House Committees on Healthcare, Insurance, Natural Resources & Agriculture and Personnel & Administration.

Additionally, Gifford was recently asked by Governor Mitt Romney to serve on the Massachusetts Ocean Management Task Force, a key state environmental group led by the Secretary of Environmental Affairs. Announced by Romney Administration in early 2003, the Massachusetts Ocean Management Task Force is part of the Massachusetts Ocean Management Initiative and is made up of federal, state and local government officials along with public members.

Prior to becoming State Representative, Gifford worked as an insurance consultant with Boston-based Insurance Overload Systems, most recently managing workers compensation claims for World Trade Center victims. Educated in business administration, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Michigan University.

A seven year resident of Wareham, Gifford is dedicated public servant having served as a Wareham Selectwoman for three years during which time she worked to resolve important issues on the Marine Resources Commission, Affirmative Action Committee, Cemetery Commission, and Cable Advisory Board. Most recently, she worked to keep Wareham from becoming divided during the recent redistricting process.

Gifford is a local leader who has worked hard over the years to address town needs. Currently she serves the Onset Bay and Buzzards Bay Village Associations. She is also member of the Massachusetts Legislators Association, the Womens Legislative Caucus, the Republican National Committee, the Plymouth County Republican Club, the Wareham Republican Town Committee, and has served as a delegate to state and national political conventions.

Gifford, 44, lives with her husband Mark in their family home in Wareham.
