Info | She is a native of Maben in Oktibbeha County and received her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and her Master's Degree in Public Policy & Administration from Mississippi State University.
Her promising political future was heralded a few years later when she was awarded the Outstanding Woman Graduate Student by the President's Commission on the Status of Women. In 1989, she received her law degree from Mississippi College School of Law.
From 1990 to 1995, she was a professor at Wood College in Mathiston. And in 1990, she was elected to the Mississippi Senate to represent Choctaw, Montgomery, Oktibbeha and Webster counties.
After serving in the Senate just one year, Tuck was selected to serve as Chair of the County Affairs Committee and gained wide support and praise for her leadership in the passage of a long-term program to repair and replace thousands of dangerous bridges throughout Mississippi. She also was a member of the Appropriations and Highways & Transportation committees. The Mississippi Firefighters' Association recognized her with its Outstanding Legislator Award.
In 1996, she was elected Secretary of the Senate where she managed the legislative body's day-to-day operations.
In March of 1999, she resigned that post to run for public office, and on Nov. 2, 1999, she was elected Lieutenant Governor of the State of Mississippi.
Since her swearing-in as Lieutenant Governor on Jan. 6, 2000, she has been recognized as the 2000 Outstanding Mississippi Woman by the President's Commission on the Status of Women and the Mississippi Woman 2000 Award winner presented by Mississippi State University.
Lieutenant Governors from throughout the U.S. also respect Tuck -- they elected her to leadership in the National Lieutenant Governors Council as chair of the Southern Region and a member of its executive committee.
A Methodist, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Arts Fair for the Handicapped and is a member of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association, the Mississippi Business & Professional Women's Club, the Golden Key National Honor Society and on the Advisory Board of the Mississippi Education Policy Fellowship Program. She is an honorary member of the Civil Air Patrol.
