InfoBob Edwards was elected to the Seattle Port Commission in 1999, assuming the seat vacated by retiring Commissioner Gary Grant. He served as chair and president of the Commission in 2002.

Edwards is a third-generation Seattle native and a Renton resident. He graduated from Bellevue High School and attended the University of Washington, graduating with degrees in physics and aeronautical engineering. He worked for Boeing in the defense area before becoming an investment analyst.

Edwards has broad experience in public life and in many issues important to the Port. Among his priorities, Edwards will seek to strengthen the region's economic vitality by continuing improvement in the Port's aviation and marine services and expansion of international trade. He also will work to expand ties and cooperative ventures between the Port and suburban communities.

He was first elected to the Renton City Council in 1989 and re-elected twice. In April 2000, his fellow elected officials from King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties elected him President of the Puget Sound Regional Council.

Edwards is active in efforts to improve the region's transportation systems. He serves on the Joint Inland Infrastructure Committee, a partnership with the Port of Tacoma to speed freight movement, as well as other committees studying the Interstate 405 and cross-Lake Washington corridors. Edwards also serves on the state Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board.

He has served as President of the Association of Washington Cities and as a member of the Puget Sound Water Quality Authority.

He and his wife Nancy have two children.
