When Bob’s youngest child entered high school, Bob put his extra time into political activities. Believing in the principles held by our founding fathers, namely limited government, economic free-markets, and strong individual rights, Bob became active in the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin, eventually becoming chairman of the Libertarian Party of Metro Milwaukee and then the state party. While Bob’s principles haven’t changed, he realizes that to help make changes for the better in Wisconsin he must act within the two party system.
Bob, who considers himself a Goldwater Republican, supported President Ronald Reagan. In 1976, while accompanying then Governor Ronald Reagan in a Milwaukee campaign appearance, Bob drove Governor Reagan’s campaign manager John Sears and members of the national press corps in a motorcade from Milwaukee’s Mitchell Field to the Pfister Hotel and back. In 1960, as a cub scout, Bob walked doot-to-door passing out literature for presidential candidate Richard Nixon. Eight years later, in 1968, Bob met future President Richard Nixon at a Milwaukee campaign appearance at the Schroeder Hotel.
Bob is active in many political organizations. In 2004, Bob joined with several individuals to form United Wisconsin, an organization whose sole purpose was to promote a Taxpayers Bill of Rights in Wisconsin. In 2005, United Wisconsin was taken over by Americans for Prosperity (www.americansforprosperity.org), a national organization devoted to promoting legislation that will spur economic development. Bob currently serves as the chairman of the Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin advisory board. Bob is also president of the Wisconsin Center for Economic Prosperity (www.wcep.org), a political action committee whose mission is to support candidates that have a pro-economic growth agenda. Bob serves as secretary of, the Wisconsin Forum (www.wisconsinforum.org), an organization that brings pro-liberty speakers to southeastern Wisconsin. . Over the past four years, as vice-president of state programs with the Independent Business of Wisconsin (www.ibaw.com), Bob has called monthly on legislators in Madison to lobby on the behalf of small business concerns. Bob is currently president of the Independent Business Association of Wisconsin.
