Ralph was a conductor on the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad with fellow conductor John Wesley Divers (1865-1907) who was killed in a train accident. He married his friend's wife Lillie Maud (Davis) Divers on 3 Feb 1910. Then became one of Colorado's first Senators.
