German - Cancer -
|
Info | I received my free public education in Germany: a diploma in electrical engineering, and a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering. I fell in love with the US during an internship in Connecticut, and moved to Michigan in 1994, starting a subsidiary of a German R&D institution – all while driving my American dream car: an eight-cylinder Mustang convertible. In 1997 I followed the call of Silicon Valley and joined an industrial laser company in San Jose. Leaving the world of big corporations in 2004, I successfully started US outposts for several European companies looking for a foothold in the US. My communications and leadership skills allowed me to successfully build those organizations. Throughout my professional life, I travelled extensively in the US, Europe and Asia, gaining insights into life, business and economies beyond our borders.
In 2013, my life took a turn after being diagnosed with breast cancer. It became clear to me that life is more important than time behind a desk, and, after some time, I decided to quit my job and instead to apply my engineering training and critical thinking skills to activism, organizing and creative problem-solving. I moved the center of my life to Truckee, California. I am a co-founder and co-chair of Tahoe Truckee Indivisible where I have led and organized residents to march, attend protests and canvass for candidates seeking office.
