Info | Since his election ten years ago to the Kentucky General Assembly, State Sen. Joey Pendleton (at left: Senator Pendleton and family) has risen through the ranks to become one the legislature's most effective voices for families and farmers throughout the state.
As past chairman of the legislature's Tobacco Task Force, Pendleton is a leading advocate for tobacco growers and their financial interests. He also works to promote agricultural diversity and preserve family farms.
Through service on the Health & Welfare Committee, Pendleton supports initiatives to strengthen families and improve both physical and mental health. In 1998, he received the "Better Life Government Award" from the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities for his support of legislation that provides families with a state income tax deduction for the purchase of long-term care insurance. The Brain Injury Association of Kentucky also awarded Pendleton with its "S.T.A.R." Award in 1998 for his efforts to establish the Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Fund. In 1996, he was named Lay Person of the Year by the Kentucky Optometric Association.
The senator's other committee assignments include Administrative Regulations Review Subcommittee, Agriculture and Natural Resources; Economic Development; Tourism and Labor; Health and Welfare; Veteran's Military Affairs and Public Protection; Tobacco Task Force; Governor's Tobacco Marketing and Export Advisory Chairman, Kentucky Tobacco Settlement Trust Corporation; and Tobacco Health and Research Institute.
A public servant in both his legislative and professional pursuits, Pendleton works as a Project Manager for the Murray State University School of Agriculture, where he passes on knowledge gained from four decades of farming to the young people of Kentucky.
Pendleton was named Outstanding Young Dairyman for the Southeastern United States in 1977 and received the 4-H Alumni Award in 1989. In 1996, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Kentucky Association of Conversation Districts. Pendleton also served three years as a magistrate on the Christian County Fiscal Court.
The senator is a graduate of Christian County High School and attended both Murray State University and Hopkinsville Community College.
He is married to Diane Wood Pendleton. The couple has two children, Michael and Michelle, and two grandchildren, Tyler Jay Ralston and Jayden Cole Ralston.. Pendleton represents the state's 3rd Senatorial District comprised of Christian, Logan, and Todd counties.
