Speaker of the Territorial House
President Pro Temp of the State Senate
Politician and rancher. Born in New York, he was a teacher before moving to Colorado in 1860. Farmed unsuccessfully and then went into cattle ranching where he made his fortune. Was president of Colorado Stock Growers Association for two terms. He was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in the Colorado territorial legislature; became speaker of the House in 1876; was president pro tem of the first Colorado legislature and was later elected to four terms as State Senator in the Colorado Legislature.
