InfoChristopher W. Byrd was born May 2nd 1968, at North Kansas City Hospital. The son of a second-generation union ironworker, Chris was brought up with an appreciation for hard work steeped in Christian values. The rural Missouri of Chris' early years provided a very active childhood that has inspired a life-long love of the outdoors.

A gifted student, Chris excelled at Platte County R-3 High School through the mediums of debate and extemporaneous speech. He served as the Student Council President, participated in the Academic Bowl, earned Eagle Scout honors, and founded a peer-counseling group that remains active today. In addition to these extra-curricular activities, Chris participated in athletics until a series of knee injuries forced him from the field. Through the course of his own therapy, Byrd discovered an aptitude for sports medicine that would eventually lead to a college scholarship to the University of Missouri-Columbia as an athletic trainer.

In 1990, Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. As a charter member of the Delta Chi fraternity, Chris served both as President and Chief Magistrate for the Board of Standards. His position as Mizzou's Athletic Trainer for both football and men's track added to the busy lifestyle he embraced as a student. During the summer months, Byrd worked as a farmhand and joined the Midwest auction circuit as an auctioneer. He also participated on Mizzou's Livestock Judging Team.

Despite his busy schedule, Chris found time to meet the love of his life, Tracy Tibbles of St. Louis. On the 25th of May 1991 the two were married at Park College in Parkville, Missouri. Upon graduating college, the newlyweds embarked on a three-year odyssey while Chris worked for a national real estate auction firm. Their journey moved them from Louisiana to Minnesota to Texas while Chris sold such properties as the famous South Fork Ranch from the TV show "Dallas."

Longing for a return home to his native Kansas City, Chris began work as a Mortgage Banker for Wells Fargo. Along with the change in career, Chris also began pursuit of a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. During this five-year stretch, the Byrd family grew with the additions of Colin in 1996 and Ian two years later in 1998.

After serious consultation with friends and family, Chris decided that a career in law would best suit his desire for public service. In 1998, Byrd entered UMKC's School of Law. The challenge of being the family's sole provider while grappling with the demands of a full-time student was not an easy task; but like every other venture in Byrd's life he met the challenge with an abundance of energy.

In January of 1999, Chris began a clerkship for the law offices of Eugene J. Feldhausen, P.C.. His spare time was consumed with participation as Note and Comment Editor of UMKC Law Review and Treasurer of the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity. During this period, he served on the UMKC Negotiating Team and earned publication honors for his Law Review Note entitled The Rise and Fall of Consumer Protection under RESPA, 68 U.M.K.C. L.Rev. 329 (Winter 1999).

In May of 2000, Byrd received a Master of Business Administration in Finance from UMKC's Bloch School of Business and Public Administration. The following year, he received a Juris Doctor from UMKC's School of Law.

In May of 2002, Chris completed his studies at UMKC's School of Law by earning a Master of Law in Urban Affairs.

The past two years Chris has been in private practice in Kansas City North. He has successfully argued cases before or in front of both judges and juries in the area of civil litigation. His practice focuses on real estate, administrative, healthcare and commercial litigation. Chris recently garnered national attention by arguing a case before the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis against the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Transportation and Department of Health and Human Services.

His involvement in the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce, as the Chair of Legislative Affairs, has kept him active in public service. In addition, Chris sits on the Board of Directors for the Platte County Economic Development Council where he chairs the Public Policy Committee.

When leisure time can be found, Chris enjoys outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and golf. A devout family man, he spends as much time with his children as possible. His philanthropic endeavors include conducting charitable auctions that benefit homeless shelters, provide scholarships, and assist chambers of commerce statewide.

Chris's political ideology is rooted in states' rights, fiscally sound economic policies and personal responsibility. It has been Chris's life-long pursuit to help shape and mold public policy for the betterment of America. His dedication and effort towards these ends cannot be measured.
