| Info | Rev. Jesse W. Brown, Jr. is a candidate for the 3rd Senatorial District and a resident and community leader in the Nicetown-Tioga section of North Philadelphia. Rev. Brown came to Philadelphia in 1988 in response to a call to the pulpit of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church at 30th and Diamond Streets. He moved into a home on 16th Street near Venango with his wife and their four young adult children. His wife, the Reverend Sandra Brown, is also a pastor at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church and both Jesse & Sandra are pastors in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Since his arrival in Philadelphia, Reverend Brown has been busy in community service. He was elected and served as President of the Black Clergy of Philadelphia & Vicinity during 1993 and 1994. He also spent 4 years as the volunteer Chairperson of Disaster Services for the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
In his role as a community leader Reverend Brown has focused his energy in four areas that are key to the viability of Philadelphia�s urban communities: economic development, education, health, and safety. One of his proudest accomplishments was serving on the committee that fought for the establishment of United Bank of Philadelphia. All four of his children were educated in the public schools of Philadelphia.
Born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, Reverend Brown is the oldest of five children in the family of Jesse & Daisy Brown. He has a B.A. degree in Sociology/Psychology from Concordia College in Bronxville, New York and received a Masters in Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, Illinois.
