| Info | Ashley Nickloes serves in the Tennessee Air National Guard and the U. S. Air Force as a KC- 135R Stratotanker Aircraft Commander, with the current rank of Lt. Colonel. Ashley also serves in the National Guard Bureau as the Deputy Director of NGB Patriot North and South Exercises, where she concurrently trains military and civilian entities to respond to disasters. These exercises ensure our homeland is well served and protected following the devastation of a natural or man-made calamity. Recently, she served in the Tennessee Joint Force Headquarters as the Air National Guard liaison coordinating air lift of supplies, equipment and personnel, to and from Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands following the destruction of the hurricanes in 2017. Ashley has served eight deployments since 9/11 and supported numerous operations, including: Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, Inherent Resolve, Freedom Sentinel, and Unified Protector.
Ashley’s roots are deeply planted in Knoxville and East Tennessee. Her father’s family hails from Oneida, TN. He also served in the Tennessee Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Major after 20 years. She lived in Wilmington, NC, for the first 18 years of her life and learned the value of hard work early by starting as a waitress at age 16 in restaurants in Wilmington, a practice she continued through college. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in History, a Bachelor of Arts Communications with a concentration in Journalism, and a minor in German. Following graduation Ashley moved to Wurzburg, Germany, to continue her German studies at the University of Wurzburg. She returned in 1996 and accepted a job with NavTech GPS the following year, where she first realized her long time love for aviation. To pursue a career in aviation, Ashley pursued a job as a flight attendant and was hired by United Airlines in 1997. This job allowed her to spend her days off flying small aircraft to build her pilot hours. In 1999 Ashley found her way home to East Tennessee where she became a true volunteer in the Tennessee Air National Guard as a pilot. In 1999, Ashley married her husband, Dr. Todd A. Nickloes. Todd is retired from the military after 22 years of service in the Army and Air National Guard and currently works as a Trauma & General Surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Ashley and Todd have been blessed with five children and reside in Rockford, TN. Currently, Ashley is pursuing her Master’s degree in Operational Military Art and Science with a concentration in Joint Operations.
