Info | I grew up in an Arkansas household with strong Christian values. Inspired by my mom and dad — a public school teacher and a minister — I became determined to serve my community with the same compassion, respect, and humility that I saw my family put into practice every day.
When I was a senior in college, I jumped at the chance to work for a Republican senator in Washington D.C. During my time there, I saw water and strip mining issues come before the Senate. But the Republican leaders around me weren’t worried about how these policies impacted regular citizens, let alone the environment. Instead, there was a mindset of profit over people, that everyone at home could simply pull up their bootstraps and make do under the laws they chose. Weren't our elected officials supposed to look out for us, and make sure our lives were getting better, healthier, and safer?
I'm running as a Democrat today because I care about the people of my state, not special interests. I want you to have access to clean, affordable drinking water for years to come. (That's why I went to the capital to fight against bad bills, and make sure you don't have to worry about what's in your tap.) I want you to have access to quality healthcare, and never have to choose between a medical treatment and paying your bills. (When my sister became disabled, I saw firsthand how limited good healthcare options could be for our most vulnerable neighbors.) And I want our kids to have an option for universal Pre-K and after-school programs, because all of our children should be set up for success from the get-go.
After years of leadership roles in business and finance and dedicated service within our community, I’m ready to fight on behalf of our district in Little Rock. I want my daughters to know that democracy can work when we look out for each other — and that decency, love, and kindness are the best ways to govern.
