Info | I am Barbara Yates-Lockamy, a lifelong resident of Columbus County, committed to serving the people of Southeastern North Carolina. As your candidate, I want you to know that I am "Committed" and "Determined" to represent the best interests of both Columbus and Robeson County in the State Senate.
Raised in a farming community, I sprout from humble beginnings. Members of my family have farmed and raised everything from pigs to chickens. Witnessing their hard work made me appreciate the work of our hands and the effort it takes to nurture something from seed until harvest. This is why I stand with farmers, not just because it sounds good, but because I mean it.
My parents taught me to say what you mean and to stand by it. This is a lesson I have always carried with me. From the Columbus County School System where my education began to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro where I received my undergraduate degree; I have been a determined servant of the people. Whether it was helping our neighbors bring in their crop or serving the students of Columbus and Robeson County, I have been committed to giving back to this community I call home. It even pushed me to obtain a master’s degree in education to better serve our students' needs.
I've held various titles professionally and civically, always remembering that simple lesson from my parents. I've carried the burden of some tough decisions, but I have always continued to hold my head high and act in the best interest of the people. I didn't duck out when things became difficult. I maintained my commitment and dedication then, as I do now as your Democratic Candidate for Senator of District Thirteen.
