She has been active in community projects and volunteers for the Susan G. Komen Foundation "Race for the Cure", a fund-raising organization for breast cancer research. She has served on the state organizing board for five years and serves because of a daughter's diagnosis with the disease. In addition to support for her campaign effort, Jan would appreciate your support for breast cancer research.

Having been honored by several women's organizations, Jan is proud to be a recipient of the Susa Young Gates Award, recognizing her unique contribution to women in business. She initiated and served on the Women in Politics Committee designed to help women find their niche in the political arena. She also served on the Utah Women's Political Caucus Board of Trustees.

Jan has either directed or complimented a group effort on several consulting projects for Salt Lake County, including writing and implementing Salt Lake County's first Cash Management Policy.

Jan currently serves as an employee representative for the Utah Public Employees Association (UPEA). Dedicated to serving both employees and their role with management, she has developed a style and unique relationship with all levels of personnel in Salt Lake County Government. She has always practiced "people before politics" in her present and previous ventures. Jan has dedicated the major portion of her career to public service. She has facilitated a 10-year planning procedure with all state agencies in the construction of state facilities. She has served as technical support staff to the State Building Board as well as her current UPEA Board of Trustees. While enveloped in this sector of her career Jan provided programming expertise to specialized areas of state government providing services to Youth and Adult Corrections, mentally and developmentally disabled individuals.

Jan has worked with industrial, educational, legislative and community leaders throughout her career. She has provided appropriate representation at State and National legislative levels of government; served on numerous boards and committees; analyzed numerous reports and studies from various state and federal agencies; prepared reports concerning a variety of topics within the scope of the organization; supervised staff, developed workshops, seminars, fund raising events, funding proposals to federal and state agencies and worked with private foundations.

Jan contributed much of her time as a young woman working on environmental planning concerns. She directed a highly successful educational program for a large non-profit group. She served on the Governor's Energy Conservation and Public Advisory Committee as Chair and served on the Salt Lake County 208 Water Quality Council. Jan also developed environmental awareness programs for public schools and community organizations and taught several courses in high schools throughout the county.

Having extensive experience in communication and marketing techniques, she has contributed much of her time by preparing articles for national publication, writing press releases on various topics, hosting a local radio show on KUER, designing "how-to" books for volunteers and designing workshops and seminar processes that instructed local and regional coordinators on issues relative to their local areas.
