I am running for the U.S. Senate because I believe we owe it to our children to leave this world better than we found it, just like our parents and grandparents did before us. I'm concerned we are going to fail our kids unless we change our priorities, and change will only come when leaders with real life experience get involved in public service again.

I've never run for office before - no one owns Tom Bruggere. My father was a traveling candy salesman. I was the only one in my family to go to college. I worked my through school pumping gas for minimum wage. After serving in combat in Vietnam, I went to graduate school on the GI Bill. I was fortunate enough to build a successful Oregon business. I have lived the American dream, but that dream is under assault.

For our future we must:

-Invest in education...Head Start, job training, and more middle class college loans.

-Raise the minimum wage and improve the standard of living for all working men and women.

-Protect Medicare and hard-earned pensions.

-Balance the federal budget, but not on the backs of children, elderly, or the poor.

-Crack down on drugs and crime with community policing and prevention programs targeting violent juveniles.

-Fight extremists attempts to eliminate environmental safeguards.

-Use our natural resources to preserve our environment while providing jobs.

-Protect a woman's right to choose.

-Reject bigotry and guarantee basic rights to all Americans.
