Thom Goolsby is a writer, professor of law and a trial attorney. He lives in Wilmington, North Carolina and is the Managing Partner of the Currin Law Firm with offices in Wilmington and Raleigh. Goolsby is on the adjunct faculty at Campbell Law School where he is a Professor of Sports and Entertainment Law.

Thom was born in Dothan, Alabama and raised in the little hamlet of Ellijay, tucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from The Citadel where he was the Regimental Commander of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. His honors included: a full United States Marine Corps Scholarship, Cum Laude with Departmental Honors, Dean's List, Gold Stars, Phi Kappa Phi, Economic Honor Society, The Round Table and a Distinguished Naval Student.

After graduating from The Citadel, he served for four and a half years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and was called back into active service during the Gulf War. Goolsby earned his MBA at Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California. He received his law degree from the University of North Carolina Law School where he was on the Dean's List and a member of the Davis Honor Society and the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation.

Goolsby was a delegate at the historic "Siracusa Conference" held in Sicily soon after the fall of the Soviet Union. As a delegate at the conference and a guest of the United Nations and the Council of Europe, he assisted in helping the former USSR and Central and Eastern European Republics in rewriting and reforming their criminal codes to include such things as the independence of the judiciary, the right to an impartial trial and the establishment of the "rule of law".

Goolsby served in the Martin Administration as Legal Counsel to the Governor's Crime Commission and worked on issues involving violent crime, prison reform and the most intensive and thorough victimization survey ever done in North Carolina. He coordinated the international portion of the first Southeastern Regional Violent Crime Summit, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, which brought in criminal justice experts from around the world to assist the region in obtaining workable solutions to its growing epidemic of violent and property crimes. Goolsby also served as the Legislative Liaison and Legal Counsel to the Juvenile Law Commission where he assisted in advising and lobbying the N.C. legislature on changes necessary to the state's juvenile code.

For many years, Thom was the writer and editor of Carolina Syndicated Columns, a popular state-based opinion/editorial column that was published weekly in numerous daily and weekly newspapers across North Carolina. A devout Capitalist and Free Marketeer, Goolsby is associated with numerous like-minded groups, including: The Conservative Society of North Carolina, The Federalist Society, North Carolina Merchants and Citizens Fighting Crime, Lincoln Legal Forum and North Carolina Taxpayers United.
