Info | Christopher W. Stanley was born on August 11, 1973 in Providence and raised in Warren, Rhode Island. Chris graduated from La Salle Academy in 1991 where he played varsity lacrosse and served on the school’s yearbook and newspaper staffs. He attended Providence College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Secondary Education in 1995. Later, Chris also earned a Master of Arts degree in Central and Eastern European Studies from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
While at Providence College and La Salle University, Chris served as a Residence Hall Director, as an Assistant Area Coordinator, and as the International Education Coordinator. In these various capacities, he served as a liaison between students, faculty and administrators. While studying at La Salle University he also developed “The Dance for Hope “-- a twenty-four hour dance marathon that linked the campus community and local Philadelphia businesses together for the purpose of raising funds to benefit the Betak Hospice and provide better care for patients living with AIDS.
After graduating from Providence College, Chris traveled to Duran, Ecuador, where he ministered to the poor of South America by teaching English and volunteering in a leper hospital. Upon his return, he produced a multi-media presentation of this experience to increase awareness of the plight of people living in third world countries.
Chris is currently serving his second term as a minority leader on the Warren Town Council. He is presently employed as a social studies teacher by the Foster-Glocester Regional School District. He also volunteers after school as Ponaganset’s Mock Trial coach. Prior to joining the faculty at Ponaganset High School, he was a teacher at Our Lady of Fatima High School in Warren. He also gained experience as a student teacher at Mount Hope Regional High School in Bristol. In 2000, Chris supported Senator John McCain (AZ) for president and was elected by the First Congressional District to serve as a delegate to the National Republican Nominating Convention.
Chris is a dedicated volunteer firefighter and has been awarded certificates of achievement in the following areas: Confined Space Rescue, Hazardous Materials Operations, Rapid Intervention and Boating Safety. In 1991 he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and still leads his local Boy Scout Troop as its Charter Representative. Chris is a life long member of the St. Mary of the Bay Parish in Warren. In addition, Chris has devoted his talents to several other civic organizations including:
the Town of Warren’s 250th Anniversary Parade Committee, Habitat for Humanity, Feinstein Foundation’s Youth Hunger Awareness Brigade, the Knights of Columbus -- Friar Council, the National Eagle Scout Association and St. Mary of the Bay’s Summer Festival Executive Board.
