Info | MASON, John Thomson, a Representative from Maryland; born at “Montpelier,” near Hagerstown, Washington County, Md., May 9, 1815; educated by a private tutor and was graduated from Princeton College in 1836; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Hagerstown, Md., in 1838; member of the State house of representatives in 1838 and 1839; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843); judge of the court of appeals 1851-1857; collector of customs at Baltimore 1857-1861; moved to Annapolis, Md., where he died March 28, 1873; interment in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, Md.
