| Info | Matt Brolley grew up in Boulder Hill, Illinois in a town that was built for families who would work in the Caterpillar plant. He knows the middle class is getting crushed and is running for Congress to put his experience as a civil engineer and mayor to work building a stronger country and fixing our biggest challenges.
Matt learned early on the value of hard work. His mother worked nights to put herself through college to become a teacher, and kept second jobs even after attaining her teaching position to help make ends meet. His father was a bus driver and brick layer before landing a job in insurance. In the third grade, Matt got his very first job as a paper boy.
After interning in college at Argonne National Labs and graduating from North Central College in Naperville, Matt called every civil engineer he could find in the phone book. Only one returned his call, and he worked there for nearly a decade, working on land development, water and sewer projects and drinking water projects.
After seeing too much extremism and not enough common sense in his home town of Montgomery, Matt decided to run for Mayor. He knocked on nearly 1,000 doors and became mayor in 2013. As Mayor, Matt convinced even the Republicans on the village board to support a sales tax referendum to pay for more investments in roads and other infrastructure, and offset that with a 15% property tax rebate for at least five years, because property taxes are one of the biggest burdens on middle class families. He invested in and improved the village’s water system, saved money by consolidating 911 operations regionally and added police officers.
Now Matt is running for Congress to but his background to work building a better Illinois, and a better America. That starts with a focus on the middle class. Bringing back good jobs. Tax cuts for struggling families, not the super rich or big corporations. Fixing the health care system. And investing in infrastructure to keep America strong and provide good jobs.
Matt lives in Montgomery with his wife and two children who always find time to enjoy the Fox River either by kayaking, fishing or walking the trails.
