Info | Nathan Green (Nate) was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Williamsburg and the County of James City in November of 2007.
Nate is a native Mid-Westerner, growing up predominantly in a small farming community in Southeast Iowa. Nate first came to Virginia in 1990 as a student at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. At George Mason, Nate majored in economics, graduating in 1994.
After graduating from George Mason, Nate was accepted into the Marshal Wythe School of Law here at the College of William and Mary. While attending law school, Nate worked as an intern in the very office he now runs. Upon graduation in 1998, Nate began his career in Fairfax before ultimately returning to the Williamsburg office. Prior to becoming Commonwealth’s Attorney, Nate spent seven years as an Assistant CA in the Williamsburg office, prosecuting everything from reckless driving charges to capital murder.
Besides his work with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, Nate has taken a very active role in the Williamsburg community. As an adjunct professor with the College of William and Mary, Nate takes pride in working with and educating the next generation of lawyers. Nate also educates high school students on the intricacies of law by establishing and running the state’s high-school mock trial program. Nate also enjoys educating more experienced students by lecturing and teaching with the Christopher Wren Association.
While Commonwealth’s Attorney, Nate has been recognized by his peers as he was elected the 1st District Representative for the Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys, and honored by the Williamsburg Bar in 2008 with the Award of Merit, and honored by the College of William and Mary with the St. George Tucker Adjunct Professor of Law Award. Nate is supported by his loving wife Karen and their ten year old son, Ben. Karen provides a lot more support than Ben.
