Info | Former LA City Councilman
Nick Pacheco's commitment to his community has kept him close to Boyle Heights. Nick still lives in the same house where he took his first steps as a child. The city holds countless memories of each significant milestone in his life. Nick attended local schools, and graduated from Loyola High School in 1982. The only time he left Boyle Heights was to attend college. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Chicano Studies from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988. After returning home, he attended Loyola Law School, and in 1994, Nick received his law degree.
Despite his professional successes, Nick refused to trade his home in Boyle Heights for life in the suburbs. His vision for the future always included the place where he grew up. His goal: to make District 14 the kind of place where people are proud to live. Nick has concrete ideas for improving the district. He is dedicated to three goals: fighting crime, drugs and gangs; fighting for good paying jobs, and fighting for increased city services.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
A vote for Nick Pacheco means a vote for the professional expertise he will bring to city hall as your councilman. Nick currently serves as your commissioner on the elected Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission. He has also been serving Los Angeles County as a deputy district attorney since 1995. In both of these positions, he has kept the interests of District 14 as his top priority.
Nick Pacheco's position as duputy district attorney has allowed him to lower the crime rate in the community by prosecuting criminals. Nick has tried to make the city a safer place for our children, a community free from drugs and gang influence. As a member of the Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission, Nick will work on creating a new city charter that will give you and your community a greater voice in city government.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Since his days in college and his early involvement with MEChA, Nick Pacheco has given his free time to improving life in his community:
Event Co-coordinator, Casa Miguel Pro at Dolores Mission Fund-raisers, 1989-91
Member, Proyecto Pastoral Board of Directors, 1988
Member, ELA Coalition Against the Prison, 1987
Co-coordinator, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA), 1986
Co-producer, Cinco de Mayo "Fiesta de la Comunidad" (Berkeley), 1983-84 & 1988
Member, Mexican American Bar Association
Member, California District Attorneys Association
Member, Eastside Democratic Club
Member, Northeast Democratic Club
Nick Pacheco has been called the "Last Boy Scout in Boyle Heights" by La Ola Herald & Journal (2/3/99) because of his loyalty and genuine concern for the welfare of District 14. Nick has chosen to politically represent the city that holds his roots. Just like the citizens of District 14, he has a personal interest in making his community safe and prosperous. Along with Nick's deep community roots, it is his professional experience and his community involvement that makes him the best candidate for city councilman.
