Info | Anika Tene Omphroy
Year of birth is speculative. Her voter registration in July 2021 indicated she was 43.
Anika has called Broward County home since childhood. She went to Castle Hill Elementary School before attending Seminole Middle School and Nova High. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University.
Anika’s passion for design and project management attracted her to events. In 2005 she and her best friend Tanika Gray launched Gray and Omphroy Concepts Inc. G. & O. Concepts was a full-service event planning and design production firm. G. & O. Concepts was blessed to produce events for the Broward Black Elected Officials (BBEO), the government of Turks and Caicos, and Miami Workers Center. G. & O. managed PR for non-profits such as Broward Black Elected Officials and Broward Caribbean Carnival.
Community service is near and dear to Anika’s heart. Anika organized her first call to action in 1992 at the age of 13. She was appointed to the Human Rights Board of Broward County in 2005; where she served faithfully for four years. She was appointed event chair for the South Florida Black Journalists Association in 2006 and elected secretary in 2007. She is became apart of the American Friends of Jamaica’s Jamaica Charity Gala organizing committee in 2013. She was also appointed to the City of Lauderdale Lakes Economic Development Board in 2013 and currently serves as Vice Chair. In 2017 Anika was honored by the Boy & Girls Club as 1 of 100 Outstanding Women of Broward County.
Anika believes in providing a voice for those who are often considered voiceless. She produced Caribbean Music Showcase on 1170 AM in 2005. She also launched, hosted, and executive produced a talk show called “The Mix” in the fall of 2010 on TeleAmerica Broadcasting Network. The show ran for two seasons and was the most watched show on the station.
