InfoLike a lot of kids, starting out in life, my father wasn’t around and while my mother did her best, life was hard and I dreamed of how I would be as a parent and how I would build the best life for my kids. So when my wife Shayna and I were blessed with twins, we were excited about the opportunity to raise our children in a way that would help them achieve their dreams. That excitement was quickly followed by the weight of responsibility we would have as parents to create those opportunities for them. And we, like every parent I know, have been doing our best.

But what many people in Denver and Colorado experience is the rising cost of living, an economy that doesn’t work for everyone with jobs that don’t pay a living wage, an education system that doesn’t meet the needs of all our students, and a criminal justice system that profits from keeping our families and communities separated and incarcerated. Adding to the challenges, many of us are trying our best to set our kids up for success while also providing for our aging parents who are facing unaffordable health care and the rising cost of living.

A born and raised Denverite, I was raised by my community; raised to care for and listen to the most vulnerable. I feel a responsibility not just for my kids’ futures but the future of our state, our city, and our people. That sense of responsibility led me to run for House District 7 because it is not enough for my kids to be able to realize their dreams – I want all of us to be able to realize our dreams. I am honored and humbled by the confidence the people of HD 7 have entrusted in me, electing me as their representative twice now.

With the same sense of responsibility and humility instilled in me from my community, I am stepping up to run for Senate District 33 to continue to represent House District 7, as well as House District 8 where I grew up, and portions of House District 6 where I played as a youngster. As the State Senator for District 33, I look forward to working closely with both Representative Leslie Herod in House District 8 and Representative Chris Hansen in House District 6, both of whom have endorsed my campaign.

I am running to represent all of the people in the Senate District, and to be your voice at the Capitol. Our city and state are changing quickly and we need more servant leaders in the State Senate working to ensure our government serves everyday people, fosters a vibrant economy, and implements sustainable policies that will empower all of us to achieve our dreams. I look forward to hearing from you, hearing your dreams, your needs, your challenges, earning your vote, and representing you at the Capitol.
