InfoRepresentative Pat Dillon is Deputy Majority Whip of the Connecticut House of Representatives, chairs the Health and Hospitals Subcommittee on Appropriations, and serves on the Screening, and Judiciary committees. She is currently serving her tenth term in the General Assembly, first being elected in 1984.

Pat came to government from a background of community activism on many issues, especially health care. She studied pediatric care for the Yale School of Medicine, leaving to help found the Connecticuts shelters for battered women. As the first Director of New Havens shelter she developed the programs in Connecticut dealing with family violence.

After six years on New Havens Board of Aldermen, chairing the budget committee, she came to the General Assembly. In the past she has served as the Chair of the Public Health Committee, as a Deputy Majority Leader, as the Chair of the Screening Committee.

Pats legislative successes include programs for crime victims, disease prevention, screening of newborns for life threatening conditions; universal child immunization, school-based health clinics, help for community health centers, lead poisoning prevention, needle exchange programs to prevent AIDS, and breast and cervical cancer screening for uninsured women. She wrote our uncompensated care law, regulation of for-profit takeovers of non-profit hospitals, and outlawed computer stalking. She has shaped much of Connecticuts AIDS policy, family violence policy, injury prevention, addiction and mental health policy, and has been the most consistent and effective advocate for the disabled, including those with Downs syndrome. She has been honored for her maternal and child health successes, including nutrition programs and addiction treatment for pregnant women. She established injury prevention programs in Connecticuts health department and a system for identifying injury in our emergency rooms to help develop prevention plans. She co-authored Connecticuts HUSKY plan for children to cover the mental health needs of all children and programs for children with special needs including the physically disabled.

Pat is a graduate of St. Marys high school and Marymount College. She has an M.A. from Ohio State University, a Master's in Public Health from Yale University in 1998, and is published on AIDS, contributing to "Blood Feuds" published by Oxford Press. Pat, her husband Dr. Jack Hughes and their son Patrick live in the Westville section of New Haven. She is a gardener and a book collector, specializing in Irish Literature.
