Info | Thomas J. Sullivan Jr. was appointed to the Board of Chosen Freeholders on January 28, 2015 to fill the unexpired term of the new Bergen County Executive, James Tedesco. As a Freeholder, he has served on the Board’s Community Development, Transportation, Shared Services and Consolidation, Law and Public Safety, and the Planning and Economic Development Committees. He was subsequently chosen by his colleagues to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board for 2017 and Chairman of the Board for 2018.
Freeholder Sullivan brings both his demonstrated leadership in Local 164 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and his experience in public service to the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Starting out as an Apprentice Electrician, Freeholder Sullivan knows the value of hard work and the opportunities and challenges that come along with it. Through many years of innovation and commitment to his career, he was elected Vice President of Local 164 in 2010, and President in 2013, a position he still holds today.
Freeholder Sullivan’s prior experience as an elected official includes serving on Bergenfield’s Borough Council from 1998 until 2002, and then Montvale’s Borough Council from 2005 until 2008. Tom and his family currently reside in Montvale.
Tom’s wife Jody is a proud second grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School in Bergenfield. Tom’s oldest daughter Kenzie, is a 2019 graduate of the Montclair State University Graduate School of Education and Human Services, while his younger daughters, Jadyn and Kerrin, are students at Pascack Hills High School in Montvale.
Freeholder Sullivan is a lifelong Bergen County resident who cares strongly about making Bergen County a leader in education, economic opportunity, and quality of life. He is privileged to serve all of the residents in Bergen County and will always continue to work hard for them.
