Claudia?s commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents of the 69th Assembly district is well noted in her record of public service as a District Attorney and member of the Santa Ana City Council. She has lived in Santa Ana for over 24 years and attended local schools: Fremont Elementary, Spurgeon and Diog Junior High schools, Santiago High, Santa Ana Community College and Cal State University Fullerton. Claudia earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School.

Claudia is dedicated to improving her community. During law school she provided legal services to the poor. After having graduated from Law School, Claudia continued to be involved. She served as President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County and President of MANA, the Mexican American National women association (OC). Claudia also served on numerous non-profit boards including CSP ? community service programs and the Orange County Bar Foundation. Most of her volunteer work has been spent addressing gang prevention, domestic violence, education and drugs.

Claudia was elected to the Santa Ana City Council in November 2000 winning over 54% of the vote against the wife of a well-established incumbent. She has served on several council committees including Public Safety, Park Development & Education, Technology and Arts & Culture. She is now a member of the Budget Ad-Hoc committee. During her tenure on the council, Claudia has been instrumental in the accomplishment of crucial projects for the residents of the City of Santa Ana. Amongst the most note-worthy are: setting in motion the study for the creation of a light rail system connecting three cities in Orange County, the creation of the International Business Center inaugurated by Mexico?s Vincente Fox, approving a 20 acre joint-use agreement with the Santa Ana Unified School District and creating the Technology Committee, which ensures access to technology for our residents and bridges the digital divide.

Claudia has also devoted her life to protecting the safety of our community. Claudia is a Deputy District Attorney. Through her tenure there, among other things, Claudia has worked enforcing child support and prosecuting drug user and sellers, theft, domestic violence, fraud, assault and battery and driving under the influence. She is currently assigned to the Felony Charging Unit, conducting preliminary hearings for many serious crimes.

Most recently, Claudia completed the Harvard University-JFK School of Government State and Local program for Senior Executives, was appointed by the California Supreme Court Justice to serve on the Collaborative Courts Judicial Council Committee and also served as vice-president of the Public Safety Committee for the League of California Cities.

Claudia will continue to serve her community. Her priorities are the Economy/Jobs, Education, Affordable Healthcare and Public Safety.
