InfoBorn in Milwaukee, WI. He married Natalie Cornell, no deceased, and has three children - James, Janet and Nancy. From 1943-1946 he server in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He received a B.A., M.A. and LL.B. from Stanford University and an M.A. from Harvard University. He served as law clerk for Justice Robert H. Jackson of the Supreme Court of the United States during the 1951 and 1952 Terms, and practiced law in Phoenix, Arizona from 1953-1969. He served as Assistant Attorney General, Office of Legal Counsel from 1969-1971. President Nixon nominated him to the Supreme Court, and he took his seat as an Associate Justice on January 7, 1972. Nominated as Chief Justice by President Reagan, he assumed that office on September 26, 1986.

Its fair to disagree with his politics, but by all accounts he was well liked and respected by his colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

And when he was elevated to Chief Justice the increase in support for him from Democrats (compared to his Associate Justice hearings) is evidence that he won people over.

Its free speech to call someone evil, but for me its reflective of how the extremes on both ends need to vilify those who we disagree with over simply disagreeing with them.

True democracy is co-existing in the marketplace of ideologies and winning over followers with merit not namecalling.

I was wondering if you had anything specific as a reason to call him evil. I certainly disagree with much of his thinking and consider some of his positions morally wrong, but not evil.

And the strain of thinking he was part of wasn't limited to him and the current members of the SC majority would have been that way without him.
