Sanford Church was born 18 April 1815 at Milford, NY. Studied law with Benjamin R. Bersac & continued in partnership with him until 1843, when he formed partnership with Noah Davis (1843-56); then partnered Church & Sawyer in Albion, NY. Member of Assembly, 1842; appointed District Attorney of Orleans County, 1845; elected Lieutenant Governor, 1850; re-elected in 1852; elected Comptroller, 1857. Elected member of the Constitutional Convention, 1867 (chaired Finance Committee). Elected Chief Judge of Court of Appeals, 1870-1880. Died 13 May 1880.
