Info | TURNER, James, a Representative from Maryland; born near Bel Air, Harford County, Md., November 7, 1783; completed preparatory studies at the Classic Academy of Madonna, Maryland; captain of militia in the War of 1812; moved to Parkton, Baltimore County, in 1811 and established a dairy farm; collector of State and county taxes in 1817; served as a justice of the peace in 1824; member of the State house of delegates 1824-1833; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1833-March 3, 1837); unsuccessful candidate for reelection; again served in the State house of delegates in 1837 and 1838; member of the State senate 1855-1859; engaged in farming at Parkton, Md., until his death March 28, 1861; interment in Bethel Cemetery, near Madonna, Harford County, Md.
