Info | born in Sylvania, Screven County, Ga., May 24, 1916; attended the Screven County public schools and the University of Georgia; served five terms in the State house of representatives and one term in the State senate; at the outbreak of the Second World War resigned from the State house of representatives and served two years in the Army Signal Corps; secretary-treasurer and deputy director of the State Board of Workmen?s Compensation, 1946; member of National Council of State Governments for two terms; district director of Office of Price Stabilization for southern half of Georgia in 1951 and 1952 and deputy regional director, Atlanta Regional Office, in 1953; engaged in life insurance-estate planning, general farming and livestock raising; member of the board of trustees of Tift College; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-seventh and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1961-January 3, 1973); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1972 to the Ninety-third Congress; was a resident of Sylvania, Ga., until his death on December 26, 1990.
