Info | My name is Kevin Richard Shores and I am respectfully requesting your vote and permission to have the honor to be your next Mayor of the City of Moorhead. It is that time again when we as citizens of the United States able to exercise our rights in selecting the people we wish to hold local positions of office in support of our needs and desires for our future. I believe and hope that I can humbly prove that I am qualified to be your next Mayor. And as your employee carry out what you believe to be in the best interest for our community.
Through the experiences of living with a disability and falling through the cracks of bureaucracy in a system that has been created to assist the people less fortunate and unable to financially support themselves I have learned humility and compassion that drives me to help others. I have also learned that only through a community are we able to move forward as a whole.
Since the beginning of time we have struggled to meet our three basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. If any person in our neighborhood, city, state, country or the world does not have these basic necessities of life we are failing as a species. It is our obligation to help fulfill these needs of everyone in our community without discrimination. It is apparent that we have not succeeded solving these challenges before us with the current methods implemented. So we must re-evaluate the situations and find a better solution or a resolution. Only through a Resolution can we fulfill our role in the sustainable cycle of compassion and humanity that will allow us to move in a direction for a better tomorrow.
I am a thirty-eight year old disabled Native American veteran born in St. Paul and for the majority of my life lived in the state of Minnesota. I graduated in 1985 from Kellogg High School of Little Canada, MN. At the age of 17 I joined the U.S. Navy were I was stationed onboard the USS Fox CG-33 out of San Diego, CA. While in the service I was deployed to the Persian Gulf during the Kuwaiti Oil Crisis. After receiving an Honorable discharge I was part of the Navel Reserves. In 1992 I was trained as a licensed Cosmetologist where I practice in Mpls. for several years. But due to my illness I was unable to continue my current position of employment. At this time I attended College at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College then the University of MN. In 1999 I transferred to MSUM. Since I have been in Moorhead I have had first hand experience of the community mentality, which I strongly wish to uphold and preserve.
