Info | A defrocked Catholic priest who was the first President of the Republic of the Congo (1960-63). An arch-conservative, when his government was on the verge of collapse during a labor and student uprising, he reportedly called President de Gaulle in tears begging for assistance, which was not forthcoming. He died in exile in Francoist Spain.
