Info | Penny Bacchiochi is a dedicated legislator who takes pride in constituent service and is committed to making her district a better place to live, work and raise a family.
She serves on the General Assembly?s Commerce and Internship committees and on the Select Committee on Housing.
She is the owner of a small real estate and property management company in Stafford, Louis Real Estate Services, a full-service real estate firm specializing in the management of federally subsidized housing.
Representative Bacchiochi?s roots in her district, her involvement in local civic organizations and her professional background have given her a unique understanding of the issues that are important to Stafford, Somers and Union residents and of the special needs of the towns she represents.
With over 20 years of housing experience, Representative Bacchiochi?s goal, as a member of the Select Committee on Housing, is to work for legislation to improve the condition and availability of senior housing in her district and elsewhere in Connecticut.
Representative Bacchiochi knows that elderly housing complexes built 20 to 30 years ago have deteriorated over the years and need to be renovated and upgraded. She believes new units need to be built to meet the increasing demand for senior housing as the baby-boomer generation begins to retire over the next ten years.
Representative Bacchiochi brings the perspective of a small business owner to the Commerce Committee?s deliberations. She believes a healthy small business community is essential to Connecticut?s economic future and that it will play a major role in helping Connecticut recover from the current economic slowdown.
Representative Bacchiochi?s goal as a member of the committee is to make Connecticut more small business friendly, which in turn, will foster economic growth and the creation of new jobs.
Representative Bacchiochi is a member of National Association of Realtors, the Connecticut Association of Realtors, the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors, the Rural Rental Housing Association of Southern New England, the National Council for Affordable and Rural Housing, the Northern Connecticut Land Trust, the National Rifle Association, Friends of the Somers Public Library and the University of Connecticut Alumni Association.
Representative Bacchiochi was born and raised in rural Stafford. She graduated from Stafford High School in 1979, and went on to graduate from Becker Jr. College with an Associate of Science degree in Social Work and from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations. She also received graduate training in Secondary Education at St. Joseph?s College.
Representative Bacchiochi is a past member of the Stafford Planning and Zoning Commission; the Blue Ribbon Commission for Stafford Beautification; and former Public Relations Director for the Somers Republican Town Committee.
She is chairwoman of the Somers Republican Town Committee; cochair, A Somers Day Committee; a member of the National, State and Somers PTA; a volunteer for Hope?s Place, a free cancer support center, and a past volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
Representative Bacchiochi resides in Somers with her two sons, Nicholas, age 11, and Anthony, age 3. Nicholas is in the sixth grade at the Mabelle B. Avery middle school, and Anthony attends the Somers Cooperative Pre-School.
Representative Bacchiochi has traveled extensively, including trips to Egypt, Europe, Mexico, and throughout the United States.
